Bournemouth Christmas Market FAQ’s

All you need to know

  • Is the event going to be any different to “normal”?
    • In order to deliver a safe and legal event, your experience at Bournemouth Christmas Market will be different from pre-Covid-19. There will be a number of simple, but really important, processes for you to follow as a visitor. While we acknowledge these may be small frustrations we hope that the secure experience we are able to provide if all visitors follow guidelines will allow you to have an enjoyable experience. 

  • What changes have been made to the Bournemouth Christmas Market, in regard to Covid-19 and the Government guidelines?
    • The Christmas Tree Wonderland, our enchanted walk around Christmas Tree experience is on pause for 2020. 
    • The Ice Rink is not happening in 2020. 
    • The Live Music stage is not happening in 2020. 
    • The Alpine Bar has been designed as an open-air bar for 2020, with a covered stretch tent, and private Igloo Domes available to pre book. We have a reduced capacity in the Alpine Bar for 2020, and we highly recommend booking a table or one of our private Igloo Domes in advance. A booking will guarantee you don’t miss out. 
    • We have reduced our retail & food Chalet huts to 22 (normally 40), which are located throughout Bournemouth Square. 
    • Covid secure Queuing systems will be in place at our Hot Food Chalet stalls. 
    • Our traders will predominantly be cashless, accepting contactless/card payments only. 
    • Hand sanitisers will be available to use on each Chalet trading stall, and at the entrance of the Alpine Bar. 
    • Chalet retail stalls will have clear markings on the floor, to show social distance queuing guidelines. 
    • Chalet retail products will not be allowed to be touched by visitors, prior to purchase. 

  • Do I have to wear a face covering?
    • It is not mandatory to wear a face covering outdoors, but it may be advised in certain areas, for example, in queuing areas for Chalet stalls we advise visitors to wear face coverings. We do not supply face coverings, please bring your own. 


Any changes in Government guidance, especially any increase in restrictions will be observed and implemented. At all times, we ask visitors to be mindful of others and observe social distancing guidelines. 


Please support us and look out for each other by following the guidelines throughout your visit, and of course if you don’t feel well or any of your household have experienced Covid-19 symptoms, please do not visit us and follow the NHS guidelines. 




Alpine Village Bar & Igloo Dome FAQ’s; 


  • How are we making the venue Covid secure?
    • The Alpine Bar has been designed as an open-air bar for 2020, with a covered stretch tent, and private Igloo Domes available to pre book. 
    • We are limited to max groups of 6 people per booking. We ask wherever possible for all members of a booking to arrive at the same time.
    • We will be operating the NHS Track and Trace system at the entry for the Alpine Bar - please scan the QR code provided on entry.
    • A hand sanitiser unit will be available on entry to the venue and we ask that you use this on entry.
    • The team will show you to your table and once seated we ask that you remain seated where possible.
    • Table service will be in operation, and we are operating a cashless, card only payment system.
    • Tables are spaced so that all groups will be appropriately separated to meet Covid-19 secure requirements. We ask that you kindly not move any tables, chairs or benches during your visit.
    • All toilets, door handles and other similar touch points across the venue are subject to an enhanced cleaning regime.
    • We are operating a ‘’VIRTUAL Q’ for 2020, where you can ‘join the queue’ for a table via an app. Check out our social media pages for more information. 

  • Do you accept cash?
    • No, this is a cashless service. All orders must be paid via major credit and debit cards or services such as Apple Pay. 

  • Do you welcome ‘walk ins’?
    • We do welcome walk in’s, but we highly recommend booking a table or one of our private Igloo Domes in advance. We have a reduced capacity for 2020, and booking will guarantee you don’t miss out. 
  • Do I have to wear a face covering?
    • It is a legal requirement that face coverings are worn indoors, at all times, unless you are medically exempt, when not seated at your table. If you are entering any indoor/enclosed area(s), for example our toilet facilities, then a face covering must be worn. We do not supply face coverings, please bring your own. You may be asked to remove your face covering by security or bar staff for either age verification or other security purposes.

  • What are your opening hours?
    • We are open from 11:00am until 10:00pm. If the Government change the 10:00pm rule, our opening times may increase. No alcoholic drinks will be delivered to tables after 10:00pm. 

  • Do you have toilets?
    • Yes we have toilets available. To help keep the venue Covid-19 secure, our toilets are cleaned every 2 hours for approximately 10 minutes. Face coverings must be worn in our toilet facilities. 

  • What happens if the Government guidelines change between booking and attending the venue?
    • If a change in Government guidelines mean we cannot honour your booking, you will be offered the opportunity to change your booking. If we are unable to do this, a refund will be available.

  • Can I sit next to my friends on a different table?
    • In order for our venue to comply with Government guidelines, we will be strictly enforcing the requirement of keeping groups to six people or less. As such we cannot allow any table to congregate with another table. Should two tables be identified as a larger group, our security will first request that each table maintains their appropriate distance and remain at their allocated tables. Failure to follow this request may result in both tables being asked to leave the venue without a refund.

  • How do I find the Alpine Bar? 
    • We are located in Bournemouth Square, next to the Obscura Café. 

  • Do you have a car park? 
    • No we don’t have a designated car park, however, there are plenty of car parks available in Bournemouth. Please see; https://www.bournemouth.gov.uk/Parking/Parking.aspx 

  • Do I need to bring ID?
    • We will be operating Challenge 25 so please be ready to provide appropriate age identification should you wish to consume alcohol. Alcohol is of course only available to persons 18 years or over.

  • Is the Alpine Bar accessible? 
    • Yes, there is level access to the venue. Please advise us in advance if a member of your party requires wheelchair access and we will endeavour to allocate you a suitable table.

  • Can I bring my children?
    • The Alpine Bar welcomes children before 6pm, but please note that our license dictates that we are strictly over 18’s only from 6pm. Please also ensure that children remain seated at your table for the duration of your visit.

  • Can I bring my dog?
    • Yes, we welcome dogs in the Alpine Bar. 

  • Do we have a dress code?
    • Whilst we don’t have a strict dress code, visiting the Alpine Bar is an experience. Think smart/casual - so smart trainers are OK, but no sportswear please. Wrap up warm, as this is an outdoor bar experience. 

  • How do I book a table?
